Outline for Term Paper - Basic Structure
Any course in college requires students to write a term paper. It is an essential part of education process. The purpose of a term paper is to allow students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge which they have received during the term. Such papers play an important role in deciding what grade should be given to a student for the entire course. Writing an outline is the best option for organizing your thoughts on your topic and dividing your term paper into sections. This is done in order to present information clearly and logically. Without an outline the reader may be confused by the order of presented information and quickly lose interest to your paper. The article presents you with the basic structure of outline for a term paper in simple steps.
Think beforehand
Outline should be based on your thoughts and results of your analysis. You can organize the content by writing and outline and it still needs lots of information.
First section
You give a general introduction to your research in the opening section. Here you identify the purpose of writing the paper, explain your main points and research methods. Additionally, you can describe the scientists which contributed to the field you are writing about. The proof for your thoughts is the sources you use.
Main section
Be sure to give your information in logical order. You have lots of pieces that you need to organize properly so divide content into paragraphs and subsections. Presenting information in such manner will demonstrate your writing and organizational skills. Browse the internet for guidelines. Remember to present information in the way that it would provide the best understanding of your topic. Your goal is to explain by creating a necessary structure. This can only be done if you have a vision of your paper and clear main points.
The outline might be changed during the writing process. If you feel that some section should be described later or earlier, do it. There is nothing wrong with changingthe structure of your outline. However, it should not be changed too much as your presenting might be altered to the extent where your readers won’t understand your main point.
Conclusion
This is the final section of your term paper. Here you summarize your main ideas and give predictions or solutions. The main point and the topic should be restated because you have to explain why they are important to the readers. If you need to make a call to action, the conclusion of your paper is the place to add it. For example, it may be a recommendation for topic to be more studied in the future. This is not an essential element of term paper but if you have any appropriate calls to actions, you should include them.
Here, your term paper is done. Now you know how to structure it and what is to be included in each section. If you follow these recommendations, your term paper will be interesting and earn you a good course grade.
